Melynn's 6 Month Stats

I took Melynn to the pediatrician on Monday and she is growing along the growth chart perfectly. She is 15 lbs. 12 oz. which is at the 45% mark. Her height is only in the 25% and she is 25 inches long. Her head circumference is 16.61 inches at 43%. The thing is that she is staying at the same proportions each time she is measured, which is good.

Today I took Emmett and Melynn with me to our new gym, 24 hour fitness. It was so fun to exercise without worrying about them, or pushing them in the stroller for that matter. They did so good. Melynn even took a nap in the swing. I did 30 minutes on an elliptical trainer, 20 minutes on a bike and some upper body weights. I'll probably feel it tomorrow but it was so great. The ladies in the Kids' Club commented on Melynn being lightweight. She must take after her dad!

Side By Side Comparison

Here it is folks, a real side by side comparison of my two kids. I just love them, they are so cute and fun and happy. We are going to dress Melynn up as a witch for Halloween and when I went through the box of decorations I found Emmett's graduation hat and gown (from when Josh graduated from Idaho State University). So we put it on her and got a picture. It is pretty hilarious how much they look the same.

Almost 6 Months Old

Here's an update on Melynn. She is teething and is in serious pain from the way she has been acting. She is not sleeping well at night anymore and is struggling to nap more than 45 minutes at a time. I can see her teeth right through the gums so it shouldn't be much longer before they actually break through. Poor thing. She is so cranky. I don't remember it being quite this hard for Emmett but my memory of that is three years old now...all the hard things have faded in intensity now. Strange how time dims our memories.

She is also very mobile. She can get on her hands and knees and rock (I am trying to get a video to put on here). She army crawls everywhere. She is getting faster and faster. She loves the piano pedals (metal and cold on her gums?) and SHOES. I can't keep them away from her. She went after my toes today. It was cute. It brought back a memory I have of my little sister sucking on people's toes. Random memory that isn't super significant and yet sticks out even more than how much Emmett struggled with teething...strange.

And she's growing hair! It is very light in color, golden almost, so you can really only see it when the light hits it. But it's there. And I think it is beautiful. Sometimes when she is wearing a bow, the hair will lay over the headband! That's a big accomplishment for our beautiful baldy.

She is so wonderful. I love looking into her clear, alert blue eyes. She already seems to understand everything I say. She just looks at me and says with her eyes, "Yeah, mom, I'm tired of Emmett picking on me too." And then she crawls away to get a shoe. I love you Melynn!

Labor Day

Melynn buzzes her lips like a trumpet player with no trumpet. She puffs out her cheeks and purses her lips really tight and voila, you get this beautiful face:


Here I am with my little boy. He sure loves sidewalk chalk and pretty soon he will learn how to peddle on his tricycle. He did some practicing yesterday.

Emmett's nap was on the couch. It was short one but it was nice for him to crash, finally.

Josh got the day off for Labor Day and we got to spend the day as a family for the first time in...well, I can't remember. We went to the park with some friends and then we all took naps. It was heaven. Josh had a meeting in the evening during which we played outside with our new neighbors and then went and played Wii at their house. It was nice just to stay close to home and have a relaxed day.

Funny Videos

Josh and Emmett played together on the iPhone after church. They had a blast playing air hockey and this tapping game (like Dance Dance Revolution for your fingers).


Then I caught Melynn playing with Emmett's basketball (he calls it the hoopball because it goes in the hoop).

My Little Comedian

Emmett will get me to laugh hysterically every once in a while, usually when I'm caught off guard about something he is doing or saying. Well, the other day he gave me a good belly laugh while we were at the outlet mall. He needed to use the restroom so we walked all the way down to the end where they have the restrooms and a little area where you can eat lunch. While we were in there I fed Emmett his granola bar and fed Melynn. Anyway, as I was sitting there a security guard went down the hallway and into the mens' bathroom. A few minutes later he came out and went back down the hallway. No big deal right?

Well, Emmett's comment was so classy. He said, "There's the cheeseman."

I said, "The cheeseman?"

Emmett said, "No, the cheeseman."

Now I'm confused. So I thought a little bit about what a security guard would look like to a 2 year old. Something, kind of like this (without the bad teeth and funny pose, and with the addition of a huge ring of keys). I then asked Emmett again, "The cheeseman?"

And he said, "No, the cheeseman."

Finally I understood him. He meant KEYS MAN because of all the KEYS. But of course Emmett can't properly say his K's yet.

The cheeseman=security guard. Pretty good, Emmett.

The Inchworm/Army Crawl

Melynn is getting around without any help from me or her brother. She rolls a lot and does this half inchworm, half army crawl movement. It is a great incentive to me to keep all toys and other items off of the floor.

A Mishmash of Things

I have so many new things to post and no real theme to it all. We just had lots of fun! We saw an air show, we went to a movie train tour put on by Disney about their new movie, A Christmas Carol, and we got some new brother/sister shots done.

The Blue Angels close up. They go so fast we only got three of the four in the shot!Amazing...

So precise that I just sat there saying, "Wow, wow, wow," over and over.
Emmett was more content throwing around this water bottle than watching the airplanes.
Here we are at the train tour for the Christmas Carol movie. It was fun to get a little taste of Christmas.
This is my new neighbor, Karen, and her son Ethan. Our kids are really close in age. Ethan is a few months younger than Emmett and their 2nd boy, Alex, is 2 weeks younger than Melynn.

Here is Emmett with his "new Ethan". The train tour was at the Durham Museum, the old Omaha train depot. That is why they are on a train. This is one of the permanent displays at the Durham.
